The idea spread nationwide, then internationally when he set up Bioforce in 1983, the only training centre in France offering courses for future humanitarian logistics experts. It marked the beginning of a great adventure, which saw Bioforce expand its range of training courses as the status of humanitarian work gained in professional recognition.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"container-1440\">\n                        <div class=\"gab-aboutus \">\n                <div class=\"row\">\n                <div class=\"col-md-12 col-lg-7 order-lg-12 media\">\n                                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bioforce.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Docteur-M\u00e9rieux300.jpg\" alt=\"\">\n                                    <\/div>\n                <div class=\"col-md-12 col-lg-5 aboutus\">\n                    <div class=\"content\">\n                        <div>\n                        <h2 class=\"title\">BIRTH OF BIOFORCE<\/h2>\n                        <div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n                           <p> In 1974, Doctor Charles M\u00e9rieux led an unprecedented vaccination campaign, saving 90 million Brazilians from African meningitis in just a few months. He observed that the success of such an undertaking relied just as much on effective organisation, in particular logistics, as on the medical intervention itself.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nUpon his return, and for almost ten years, Doctor Charles M\u00e9rieux kept reflecting on his ideas, developing contacts at every level &#8211; in ministries, regional authorities, humanitarian and UN organisations, with scientific and political key figures.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<br \/>\r\nHe persuaded the then Secretary of State for Defence, Charles Hernu, and the first President of the Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes region, Charles B\u00e9raudier, of the importance of these ideas, and lay the foundations for a project which at the time was known as the \u2018three Charles project\u2019: and that is how Bioforce came into being in 1983. In October 1983, the very first students began their course to become &#8216;development officers, specialised in third world issues&#8217;.
