The Middle East is contending with humanitarian needs on a huge scale due to deep-seated conflict, chronic shortages of water, the impact of climate change, etc. Bioforce has been working in Jordan, the nerve centre of humanitarian operations in this region, to create, develop and build the capacity of all the humanitarian stakeholders here so they can address the populations’ needs. Discover how.

Building the capacity of organisations working in crisis zones
In over two years spent working in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bioforce was able to develop a major part of its strategy to build the capacity of local organisations and institutions.
In 2014, Guinea was hit with the full force of the Ebola epidemic, in a context where 47% of people live beneath the poverty line. In total, over 11,000 deaths were officially registered as well as over 10,000 survivors with permanent after-effects. The battle against this virus helped gradually reduce transmission and since 2015 the country has managed to limit it to low-level outbreaks. Maintaining a high level of monitoring is still required, especially as the country is regularly confronted with a large number of epidemics.

FORMASAN: structuring a sustainable training offer to better respond to health crises
Guinea has a permanent reference training capacity for its 600 health crisis management professionals.
context
Guinea regularly faces many outbreaks: cholera, Ebola, COVID-19 today.... Having competent professionals who can be deployed throughout the entire country is undoubtedly one of the keys to improving the quality of its response to health crises.
The Project
The National Health Security Agency (ANSS), a Guinean government agency created in 2016 in the aftermath of the Ebola crisis, is in charge of implementing the Ministry of Health's strategic directions in health security. One of its mandates is to strengthen surveillance and management capacities in the country. In this regard, ANSS wishes to offer all those involved in the management of health crises in Guinea a professional training programme of reference, of high quality and sustainable. Bioforce and ANSS were partners, alongside Expertise France, in the setting up of epidemic alert and response teams (ERARE) until 2017, and are now working together on this new project in two areas: the creation of a training unit within ANSS and the structuring of its training offer. For 18 months, the ANSS will be supported by Bioforce in the appropriation of all the tools, procedures and training design methods required to develop a training catalogue. The development and implementation of training modules is the second stage of our support. Approximately 600 Guinean health professionals (human, animal and environmental health), Ministry officials or community workers, involved in the response to health crises, will benefit from it.
